Play Me

Custom Search

"Play Me" started out as an attempt to write some lyrics for my friend Juliann Kuchocki's new jazz album. She gave me a phrase -- which actually didn't even end up in the final product. The song is kind of bluesy, with the bass providing a heartbeat under the melody. Now, what could that pounding rhythm be all about, I wonder?

Play Me

I've been working all day
Not to care if I see you tonight
To pretend it's okay
That someone else can do me so right

But I'll be fooling myself
I can't go fooling around
I can't be left on the shelf
When I know you're in town

You need play me good
Break it down
Fret my eager body
Play me like a melody
You need to finger out the chords
Drop it down
Hit that line again
Play me like a melody

There can't be no other man
Who can coax that melody out
The way your fingers can
Make me whisper, make me shout

And I know the song is just beginning
Even as I feel the chill
Even though you play it cool
I know you feel the same
Delicious thrill

You need play me good
Break it down
Fret my eager body
Play me like a melody
You need to finger out the chords
Drop it down
Hit that line again
Play me like a melody

You need to spread those fingers out
Play it hard
Rock the night away
Play me like a melody
You need to croon it in my ear
Take it down
Start it again...

You need play me good
Break it down
Fret my eager body
Play me like a melody
You need to finger out the chords
Drop it down
Hit that line again
Play me like a melody
